Curious to know more prior to signing up? Look no further. To give you an idea of what this role entails, Liaison duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Staying informed by attending Local Unit Liaison meetings (Date and time to be set by WSNA local unit officers).
  • Actively listening to nurses on your unit/floor to bring issues and ideas to the local unit officers. 
  • Informing members on your unit/floor of WSNA local unit activities and events.
  • Maintaining the WSNA bulletin board on the unit, keeping it current with pertinent information.
  • Telling Local Unit Officers of activities occurring on their floor, updates, and events.
  • Serving as the communication “liaison” for WSNA Nurse Representative and the Local Unit Officers.
  • Recruiting other nurses to aid in updating the break room bulletin board, having one-on-one conversations with fellow members, and documenting unsafe conditions.
  • Serves as an essential mobilizer.
  • Motivates nurses into action and is a unit organizer.
Responsibilities of the WSNA Local Unit Liaison
  1. Uphold the rules, policies, and bylaws of WSNA and the local unit.
  2. Adhere to the ANA Code of Conduct for Nurses.
  3. Uphold the bylaws of WSNA.
  4. All written communications concerning WSNA business must come from WSNA through official channels and not be created individually. Any materials, such as one-pagers or flyers, must be developed collaboratively with the WSNA Nurse Representative and Local Unit Officers.
  5. Any distribution of information must be approved by and directed by WSNA Nurse Representative and WSNA Local Unit Officers. 
  6. WSNA Local Unit Officers reserve the right to remove any Local Unit Liaison if the roles and responsibilities are not met or WSNA bylaws or the WSNA local unit rules are violated.
  7. Local Unit Liaisons must remain a member of WSNA in good standing.
LULs are not expected/required to:
  • Attend investigatory meetings. That is the role of the officers; however, there may be an opportunity in the future should you be interested.
  • Provide correspondence to officers, or the WSNA representative, regarding every issue.
    • But they should be able to pass out relevant contract info.
  • Interpret the contract
    • But they should have general knowledge of its contents.
Remember, you are a volunteer, and your involvement is appreciated in whatever capacity you have available.
